The Government of India has blocked five over-the-top (OTT) platforms for allegedly streaming explicit and pornographic content in violation of digital media regulations. The action was taken following a review conducted by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

Five OTT Platforms Blocked

The platforms that have been restricted are:

  • MoodXVIP

  • Koyal Playpro

  • Digi Movieplex

  • Feel

  • Jugnu

Users attempting to access these applications in India may now encounter service disruptions or find them unavailable on app distribution platforms.

Action Taken Under IT Rules

Officials stated that the decision followed due legal process, including consultations with relevant authorities and an assessment of compliance with the Information Technology Rules and digital media guidelines.

Under the IT regulatory framework, digital intermediaries and streaming services are required to adhere to content standards. Authorities may intervene when platforms are found hosting content considered unlawful or in breach of statutory norms.

Increased Oversight of Digital Streaming Platforms

With the rapid growth of OTT consumption across India—including web series, films, and short-format videos—the government has intensified monitoring mechanisms to ensure regulatory compliance.

The latest action indicates that enforcement measures are being actively implemented to maintain adherence to legal standards.

Focus on Viewer Protection

Policy observers note that such regulatory steps aim to promote responsible content distribution and protect viewers, particularly minors, from exposure to harmful or inappropriate material.

The development sends a clear message to digital entertainment providers that compliance with Indian laws remains mandatory, and violations may result in regulatory action.
