In a devastating road accident, a junior engineer from the electricity department lost his life, while two others sustained severe injuries after their motorcycles collided head-on.

The incident occurred around 6:30 PM today in front of the TVS showroom in Rajamunda, within the Deogarh municipality area.

The deceased has been identified as Amit Mohanty, son of Ashok Mohanty from Brahmani Manjari village in Cuttack district. Amit was employed as a junior engineer at the Deogarh TPWODL and the electricity department. According to reports, he was heading back to his rented home after completing his duty when a speeding motorcycle approaching from the opposite direction lost control and rammed into him.

The impact caused Amit to be thrown off his bike, resulting in severe head injuries and profuse bleeding. Eyewitnesses described the scene as chaotic, with all three individuals involved lying injured on the road.

The two riders on the other motorcycle were identified as Shakti Behera and Sachitananda Sahu, both hailing from Talkudar village under the Kundheigola police station jurisdiction. The duo, who are reportedly related as brothers, suffered critical injuries in the crash.

Coincidentally, Deogarh Sub-Collector Parakshit Sahu was passing through the area at the time. He promptly stopped to assist, rescuing one of the severely injured victims and transporting him to the hospital in his vehicle. The remaining two were rushed to the Deogarh District Headquarters Hospital via ambulance.

Upon arrival at the hospital, doctors declared Amit dead. The two injured youths were initially treated but later transferred to the Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) in Burla for advanced care due to the severity of their conditions.

Deogarh police station officials arrived at the scene shortly after, conducting a preliminary investigation and seizing both damaged motorcycles involved in the accident. Amit’s body was also taken into custody and sent for postmortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.

News of Amit’s untimely demise spread quickly, prompting TPWODL Executive Engineer Raju Saha, along with other departmental officials and staff, to rush to the hospital to offer condolences and support.

This tragic event highlights ongoing concerns about road safety in the region, particularly involving speeding vehicles on busy thoroughfares. Authorities have urged motorists to exercise caution, and an official inquiry into the accident is underway.
