The Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Department has signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Airawat Research Foundation (ARF) at IIT Kanpur to usher in AI-powered, citizen-centric governance.

The collaboration aims to unify fragmented urban data into a single digital platform, enabling faster and more responsive public services.

Officials confirmed that the initiative will leverage advanced technologies such as Digital Twins and predictive analytics. These tools will optimise critical urban sectors, including water management, traffic control, waste disposal, and air quality monitoring. By breaking down traditional data silos, the system will shift city administration from a reactive model to a proactive, data-driven framework.

The partnership envisions urban infrastructure evolving as a “living organism,” adapting dynamically to the real-time needs of residents. With integrated data streams, administrators will be able to anticipate challenges, streamline service delivery, and improve overall quality of life in cities.

The HUD Department emphasised that this digital transformation marks a significant step toward smart governance. IIT Kanpur’s ARF will provide technical expertise, while the department will oversee implementation across urban centres. Together, they aim to set a national benchmark for modernised urban management.
