A shocking incident occurred in Rayagada town’s Rama Krishna Nagar on Saturday evening when two masked miscreants stormed into the residence of Ward No. 4 Councillor Sukanta Parida.
The intruders threatened his young daughter with a knife and forced his wife to hand over all the gold jewellery in the house to save the child’s life.
According to Sukanta, the miscreants entered the house from the rear around 6 p.m. and confronted his wife. They held the daughter at knifepoint and demanded jewellery. In fear for her child’s safety, she surrendered ornaments, including two pairs of gold earrings, a mangalsutra, two silver anklets, and four bangles belonging to the younger daughter.
After collecting the valuables, the miscreants fled the scene. Sukanta’s wife immediately informed him over the phone, and he rushed home before alerting the police.
Rayagada Town Police, led by IIC Prasanna Kumar Behera, reached the spot with a sniffer dog unit and began an investigation. Authorities are examining leads to identify and apprehend the culprits.
