An attempted child abduction was foiled at Baripada Hospital, thanks to the vigilance of the hospital attendants.
The incident took place on Saturday in the hospital’s Women and Child Ward.
The suspect, a woman from the Rasgobindpur area, was caught red-handed while attempting to steal newborns from the hospital. The quick action of the attendants, who noticed her suspicious behavior, led to her apprehension when she tried to flee the scene after being confronted.
The Baripada Town Police have taken the woman into custody for further investigation. Preliminary investigations suggest that she may be part of a larger child-trafficking network. Authorities are now probing whether she acted alone or had accomplices involved in the crime. CCTV footage from the hospital premises is being reviewed to gather more evidence.
The incident has raised serious concerns about the security at the hospital and the safety of newborns. Following the event, the hospital administration has been urged to enhance security measures, including stricter visitor screening and increased surveillance, to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
Authorities have also advised parents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to hospital staff immediately.
This quick action by the hospital attendants has undoubtedly prevented a potentially tragic situation and highlighted the need for improved security measures in medical facilities across the region.
