Tokyo: Aditi Ashok’s campaign at the Tokyo Olympics ended without a medal as she finished fourth on the final day of the women’s individual golf event here on Saturday.
Aditi finished with 15 under-par on the final day and was just a stroke behind World No. 11 Lydia Ko, who kept herself in the run for the silver medal on Tied 2nd with Japan’s Inami Mone.
USA’s World No.1 Nelly Korda was crowned the Olympic champion as she carded a total of 267 with 17 under-par; Aditi wasn’t far behind as she carded 269 with 15 under-par.
Aditi remained behind Korda for the majority of the earlier three rounds at second place. She was often involved in a four-way battle with Lydia, Mone and Denmark’s Emily Pedersen. However, after an excellent Front Nine in Round 4, Aditi couldnot keep up with Lydia and Mone, who make series of birdies and piled pressure on Aditi.
There was a storm alert before the final two holes and play was briefly halted with Aditi tied-3rd. However, Aditi came back strong finding fairways and presented herself the chances of birdies in both holes. She then ended up missing them and finished right outside the medal-scoring positions.
