Police recovered the body of a young man from Room 502 of Hotel Suraj under Sahadevkhunta police station in Balasore.
Officers arrested two people, including a woman, and produced them in court. The accused are Ramchandra Singh, 22, and Jemamani Singh, 27, both from Barajambani village under Betanati police station.
According to DSP Nirmala Gochhayat, Akash Mohant of Barajambani arrived in Balasore on December 25 with his friend Ramchandra and Jemamani. Akash booked the hotel room using his Aadhaar card along with the cards of his wife, Jayanti Sahu and brother Prakash Mohant. His wife was unaware of his stay.
Investigators revealed that Ramchandra and Jemamani shared an illicit relationship. After consuming alcohol, Akash attempted to establish physical contact with Jemamani. Ramchandra opposed him, leading to a heated argument. During the confrontation, Ramchandra pressed Akash’s neck while Jemamani held his legs. Akash collapsed, and the duo fled the hotel.
Akash’s wife tried to reach him by phone, but his mobile remained switched off. She then called Ramchandra, whose inconsistent replies raised suspicion. The next day, the police informed her about Akash’s death. She lodged a complaint, and the police registered case number 505/25. Officers tracked Ramchandra in Betanati and later arrested Jemamani from Jajpur.
