In a terrifying incident on Sunday evening, a CNG-powered car burst into flames while travelling on the Puri-Satapada State Highway 316 near the Panasapada petrol pump. The vehicle, carrying tourists from Angul district, was en route back from a sightseeing trip to Satapada when the fire erupted unexpectedly.
Eyewitnesses described the scene as chaotic, with the car engulfed in flames in a matter of seconds. The driver and all passengers managed to escape unharmed by quickly fleeing the vehicle, averting what could have been a fatal disaster.
Local authorities confirmed that the group had been visiting the scenic Satapada area, known for its Chilika Lake views, before the mishap occurred during their return journey.
Fire services were alerted promptly and rushed to the site, successfully containing the blaze and preventing it from spreading further. No injuries were reported, and all occupants are confirmed safe. Preliminary investigations suggest a possible malfunction in the CNG system, though an official probe is underway to determine the exact cause.
The highway was briefly disrupted, but traffic resumed shortly after the fire was extinguished. Police and fire officials are coordinating to provide any necessary support to the affected tourists.
This event highlights growing concerns over vehicle safety, particularly for alternative fuel options like CNG, which are increasingly popular in India for their eco-friendly benefits.
