An elderly woman died under mysterious circumstances at her residence in Kumudabali village under Ambadola police limits in Odisha’s Rayagada district on Saturday.
Police recovered her half-charred body from the house, and the incident immediately sparked concerns in the locality.
The deceased, identified as Chandan Tula Dangari, lived alone and had no immediate family members. Officials stated that the cause of death has not yet been determined. Moreover, they explained that it remains unclear how she came into contact with fire or what led to the incident.
Soon after receiving information, the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Bissamcuttack, along with personnel from Ambadola Police Station, reached the spot and began an investigation. Consequently, police started examining whether the death was accidental, suicidal, or involved foul play.
The case quickly drew attention due to its unusual circumstances. Authorities stressed that a thorough inquiry is underway. Furthermore, investigators plan to collect forensic evidence and statements from locals to establish the sequence of events.
The incident also raised questions about the safety and vulnerability of elderly individuals living alone in rural areas. In response, police assured that all angles will be explored to uncover the truth behind the death of Chandan Tula Dangari.
