Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi approved a significant hike in stipends for postgraduate students in government Ayurvedic and Homoeopathic medical colleges across the state.

Firstly, the decision aims to encourage students in traditional medicine streams and strengthen healthcare services. Moreover, it reflects the government’s commitment to supporting young professionals in these fields.

Under the revised structure, effective from January 1, 2026, PG students will receive:

  • First Year: Rs 48,000 per month (up from Rs 31,000)
  • Second Year: Rs 52,000 per month (up from Rs 32,000)
  • Third Year: Rs 55,000 per month (up from Rs 33,000)

Consequently, these revisions translate to increases of 55%, 62%, and 67% respectively, across the three years.

In addition, stipends for house surgeons in government Ayurvedic and Homoeopathic colleges also increased from Rs 17,000 to Rs 30,000 per month. Furthermore, this hike applies retrospectively from August 1, 2025, ensuring immediate benefits.

The Chief Minister emphasised that the decision will benefit around 120 PG students currently enrolled in these courses. He also expressed confidence that the enhanced stipends will motivate students to focus more on academics and patient care. As a result, the state expects improvements in the overall quality of healthcare delivery.
