In a meteoric rise that has captured the attention of cricket enthusiasts worldwide, Afghanistan’s Azmatullah Omarzai has clinched the top spot in the ICC all-rounder rankings following a phenomenal ICC Champions Trophy 2025 campaign.

The 24-year-old all-rounder delivered a stellar performance throughout the tournament, showcasing his prowess with both bat and ball. Omarzai’s standout moments included a five-wicket haul against England and a vital half-century against Australia, propelling him to the pinnacle of the rankings. His career-high 296 rating points reflect his consistent excellence.

Omarzai’s ascent dethroned his compatriot Mohammad Nabi, who now holds the second position. India’s Axar Patel also made significant strides, jumping 17 spots to 13th place, buoyed by his own impressive all-rounder contributions.

In the ODI batter rankings, Omarzai’s batting heroics saw him climb 12 places to 24th. Afghanistan’s Ibrahim Zadran also made waves, moving up to 10th place after a remarkable 177-run performance against England. Other notable movers include Australia’s Steve Smith and New Zealand’s Kane Williamson.

The ODI bowler rankings witnessed a reshuffling as well, with New Zealand’s Matt Henry moving up to third place. Sri Lanka’s Maheesh Theekshana and South Africa’s Keshav Maharaj retained the top two positions. India’s Mohammed Shami, revitalized by his Champions Trophy form, climbed to 11th place, with England’s Jofra Archer also making significant gains.

India’s Shubman Gill continued to hold the top spot in the ODI batter rankings, with his compatriot Virat Kohli moving up to fourth place following his semi-final heroics against Australia.

The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 has not only been a showcase of individual brilliance but also a testament to the depth and talent in international cricket, as emerging stars and seasoned veterans alike vie for supremacy on the global stage.
