A widespread wave of IndiGo flight cancellations has disrupted travel plans across the country, leaving many passengers frustrated and uncertain. Among the affected travellers was a newly married techie couple who were forced to attend their own wedding reception virtually after their IndiGo flight from Bhubaneswar to Hubballi was cancelled at the last minute.
Medha Kshirsagar from Hubballi and her husband, Sangama Das from Bhubaneswar—both IT professionals based in Bengaluru—had planned a traditional wedding reception at Gujarat Bhavan in Hubballi. The celebration was scheduled for Wednesday, following their wedding ceremony in Bhubaneswar on November 23.
The couple was originally set to fly from Bhubaneswar to Bengaluru and then take a connecting flight to Hubballi on December 2. However, the flight’s schedule kept fluctuating throughout the night. Eventually, at around 4 a.m. on Wednesday, the airline informed passengers that the flight had been cancelled.
Despite multiple attempts, the family could not find an alternative travel option as the disruption continued to escalate. Guests had already arrived at the venue, many of whom were also dealing with their own flight-related difficulties caused by the ongoing cancellations.
With the venue decorated and the programme underway, the families decided to go ahead with a unique solution—an online wedding reception. The couple joined the celebration virtually, appearing on a large screen at the venue while dressed in traditional attire from their room. Their family and friends attended in person, greeting the couple through the virtual setup.
The video of the unusual reception has been widely shared on social media, reflecting passengers’ growing concerns about IndiGo’s operational issues and the cascading impact of flight cancellations on important personal and professional events
