Abhishek Sharma lit up the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy on Sunday as he hammered a 32-ball century for Punjab against Bengal in an Elite Group C clash at Hyderabad.
Opening the batting with Prabhsimran Singh, Abhishek raced to his fifty in just 12 balls against a Bengal attack led by Mohammed Shami and Akash Deep.
En route to his ton, Abhishek struck seven fours and 11 sixes, maintaining a blistering strike rate of over 300. Consequently, he registered the third-fastest T20 hundred by an Indian, equalling the record of 28-ball centuries set by Urvil Patel and himself in 2024.
Furthermore, Abhishek and Prabhsimran stitched together a record-breaking opening stand of 205 runs in 76 deliveries. Their partnership surpassed the previous best of 177 set by Sanju Samson and Rohan Kunnummal for Kerala against Odisha.
Eventually, Abhishek fell for 148, the second-highest individual score in SMAT history, only behind Tilak Verma’s 151 against Meghalaya in 2024.
