Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled a 77-foot bronze statue of Lord Ram in Partagali, South Goa, on November 28, 2025.
The event formed part of the 550th year celebrations of Shree Samsthan Gokarn Jeevottam Mutt, one of India’s oldest monastic institutions. Goa Governor Ashok Gajapathi Raju and Chief Minister Pramod Sawant attended the ceremony.
Renowned sculptor Ram Sutar, who designed the Statue of Unity in Gujarat, created the statue. Goa’s Public Works Minister Digambar Kamat stated that this is the tallest statue of Lord Ram in the world. The mutt, built 370 years ago in Partagal village, holds a prominent place in the Saraswat community for its spiritual, cultural, and social contributions.
Various programmes are being held from November 27 to December 7 to mark the mutt’s 550‑year tradition. Modi also visited the temple within the mutt premises, underscoring its historical and cultural importance.
Earlier in the day, Modi participated in the Laksha Kantha Gita Parayana programme at Sri Krishna Matha in Udupi, Karnataka. He recited shlokas from the Bhagwat Gita along with over one lakh devotees, including students, monks, and scholars. He inaugurated the Suvarna Teertha Mantapa and dedicated the Kanaka Kavacha (golden cover) for the sacred Kanakana Kindi.
Modi hailed the Jana Sangh’s governance model in Udupi, recalling the election of VS Acharya in 1968. He noted that Udupi pioneered cleanliness drives and water supply systems decades ago. He described the collective recitation of shlokas as a powerful expression of India’s divinity and social unity. Drawing a connection between Udupi and Dwarka, he praised Jagadguru Madhwaachaarya, the founder of the Math.
