The passing of veteran actor Dharmendra at the age of 89 has drawn tributes from national leaders and state dignitaries, underscoring his towering presence in Indian cinema.


Prime Minister Narendra Modi said Dharmendra’s demise marked “the end of an era in Indian cinema.” In a post on X, he described him as “an iconic film personality, a phenomenal actor who brought charm and depth to every role he played.” Modi added that Dharmendra was equally admired for his “simplicity, humility and warmth,” offering condolences to his family, friends, and countless fans.

President Droupadi Murmu also expressed grief, calling Dharmendra’s death “a great loss to Indian cinema.” She remembered him as “one of the most popular actors” who delivered numerous memorable performances during his decades-long career. “As a towering figure of Indian cinema, he leaves behind a legacy which will continue to inspire young generations of artists,” she wrote.

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi expressed deep sorrow over the demise of veteran actor Dharmendr. In a heartfelt post on X, Majhi said he was “deeply saddened to learn about the passing of legendary actor Shri Dharmendra Ji.”

Majhi noted that Dharmendra captivated audiences for decades with his versatile performances and charismatic presence. “His legacy will continue to inspire generations of artists and cinema lovers,” he wrote, extending condolences to the actor’s family, friends, and countless admirers. “May his noble soul rest in peace. Odisha Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo described Dharmendra as “Bollywood’s He-Man and Dharam Paaji,” noting his unmatched legacy spanning six decades. “Incredibly handsome, enigmatic, and the embodiment of a hero — he will forever remain a bona fide legend whose magic continues to live on in cinema history and in the hearts of millions,” he posted.
