In a significant boost to medical education and healthcare infrastructure in western Odisha, the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has approved 62 new postgraduate (PG) seats across six government medical colleges and hospitals for the academic year 2025-26.

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda for this milestone approval, highlighting its potential to enhance specialised healthcare delivery in the region.

In a letter addressed to Nadda, Majhi described the decision as a “significant milestone” in strengthening medical education and healthcare in western Odisha. “This approval marks a significant milestone in strengthening the medical education and healthcare infrastructure in western Odisha. The addition of PG courses will not only enhance the quality of medical teaching and learning but also improve specialised healthcare delivery for the people of the region,” the Chief Minister stated.

The new PG seats are set to be introduced in the six government institutions, aiming to elevate the standards of medical training and research. Majhi emphasised the state government’s commitment to full compliance with the norms and standards prescribed by the National Medical Commission (NMC). “The Government of Odisha is committed to ensuring full compliance with the norms and standards prescribed by the National Medical Commission and to extending all necessary support to develop these institutes into a premier centre of medical excellence,” he noted.

Reiterating his appreciation, the Chief Minister conveyed his sincere thanks for the continued support and guidance in advancing equitable healthcare access across the nation. This development is expected to not only improve the quality of medical education and research but also accelerate healthcare services for local communities, particularly in underserved areas of western Odisha.

The approval comes at a time when Odisha is focusing on expanding its healthcare capabilities, and this addition of PG seats is seen as a key step toward building a robust network of specialised medical professionals.
