With the festive season in full swing, Indian Railways has announced nearly 12,000 special trains across the country to handle the huge rise in passenger traffic. The East Coast Railway (ECoR) has rolled out 367 special trains to ensure smooth, comfortable, and safe travel for passengers.
ECoR Adds 367 Trains to Ease Travel Demand
ECoR General Manager Parmeshwar Funkwal said that 76 special trains have already been introduced, benefiting over 78,000 passengers so far.
“Under the guidance of the Railway Minister, over 12,000 special trains are being operated nationwide. The East Coast Railway has added 367 services to meet festive demand,” Funkwal said.
The Northern Railway (1,919 trains), Central Railway (1,998 trains), and Western Railway (1,501 trains) are running the largest number of special trains. Meanwhile, East Central Railway and North Western Railway have each introduced 1,217 additional trains to meet regional requirements.
Security and Monitoring Measures Strengthened
To ensure passenger safety, Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel and senior officials have been deployed at key stations.
More than 900 CCTV cameras are being used to monitor platforms and prevent untoward incidents.
The Indian Railways is also planning to operate around 8,000 additional trains during upcoming festivals, including Chhath Puja, to accommodate the heavy rush.
Railway Minister Reviews Festive Preparedness
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw recently reviewed the arrangements at New Delhi Railway Station. He inspected passenger facilities, ticket counters, and crowd management measures to ensure hassle-free festive travel.
Between October 1 and 19, the Railways operated 3,960 special trains, carrying more than one crore passengers across the country.
The East Coast Railway, which serves major parts of Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh, continues to play a vital role in providing safe, reliable, and timely train services for festive commuters.
