Bargarh will host the iconic Dhanu Yatra Mahotsav from December 24, 2025 to January 3, 2026, drawing lakhs of visitors to witness the world’s largest open-air theatre.
The announcement followed a high-level meeting chaired by Bargarh District Collector Aditya Goyal, who also heads the Dhanu Yatra Mahotsav Committee. Officials finalized plans for security, artist selection, budgeting, and infrastructure upgrades.
Organizers emphasized fairness in choosing performers, especially for the role of Kansa, a central figure in the theatrical reenactment of Krishna’s mythological tale. The committee aims to uphold the festival’s legacy while ensuring transparency.
Police and administrative teams will prioritize crowd control and law enforcement. With thousands expected to attend daily, safety remains a top concern. Authorities plan to deploy additional personnel and install surveillance systems across key locations.
Local businesses and artisans prepare for a surge in activity. Hotels, eateries, and transport services anticipate high demand. Cultural groups from across Odisha and neighboring states will participate in the performances.
The festival transforms Bargarh into Mathura and nearby Ambapali into Gopapur, creating a living stage that spans the entire town. Residents and visitors become part of the narrative, blurring the line between audience and performer.
Dhanu Yatra celebrates the triumph of good over evil through immersive storytelling. The event showcases Odisha’s rich heritage and attracts global attention for its scale and authenticity.
Preparations continue in full swing. Authorities urge citizens to cooperate and maintain discipline during the festivities.
