Bhopal: At least 27 patients suffering from ‘black fungus’ were taken ill after they were administered Amphotericin-B injections at a government hospital in Madhya Pradesh, an official said.
The incident was reported from Bundelkhand Medical College (BMC) in Sagar district.
However, the medical condition of these patients is stable now, the official added.
The use of the injection, a key drug in the treatment of black fungus, was immediately stopped after the incident, he said.
Amphotericin B is an antifungal medication used for serious fungal infections and leishmaniasis. The fungal infections it is used to treat include mucormycosis, aspergillosis, blastomycosis, candidiasis, coccidioidomycosis, and cryptococcosis. For certain infections it is given with flucytosine. It is typically given by injection into a vein.
