Cuttack: Former Mahanga MLA Bikram Keshari Barma succumbed to COVID-19 while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar today. He was 81.
Barma was elected as MLA to Mahanga Constituency in 2004 elections on BJD ticket. He was also the chairman of Odisha State Cashew Development Corporation Ltd.
He was also the Founder President of the United Teachers’ and Employees’ Association, Orissa from 1994; General Secretary of Oriya Sanskruti Sammilani; President of Mahanga Prativa Puja Sansad and Life Member of Utkal Sahitya Samaj.
He had received the 2nd Best Productivity Award as the Chairman of Orissa State Seeds Corporation from the Central Government in 1991.
Meanwhile, Panchayati Raj Minister Pratap Jena expressed deep grief over the demise of Barma.
