Heavy rainfall in Odisha’s Gajapati district trapped 15 tourists from Cuttack and Bhubaneswar in the Mahendragiri hills.
They had traveled to Mahendragiri during the Dussehra holidays. Sudden rain triggered landslides and blocked their return route. The stranded tourists faced harsh weather and rising panic.
Forest officials and police launched a rescue mission on Thursday. Teams navigated treacherous terrain to reach the tourists. Authorities evacuated all 15 individuals safely. Medical teams checked the rescued tourists for injuries. No serious health issues were reported among the group.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi ordered immediate action. He directed Minister Bibhuti Jena to visit Gajapati district.
