In a heartbreaking incident, a 21-year-old final-year nursing student from a local private college allegedly died by suicide by hanging herself at her home in MV-13 village under Malkangiri police limits.

The young woman, identified as Ankita Biswas, daughter of Brindaban Biswas, was rushed to Malkangiri Medical College but was declared dead on arrival.

According to her father, Brindaban, the tragedy stems from relentless harassment and betrayal by a youth named Sujay from MV-60 village. Brindaban claimed that Sujay had been persistently calling Ankita, professing his love and promising marriage. “He kept calling my daughter repeatedly. He said he loved her and even promised to marry her,” Brindaban told reporters, his voice breaking with grief.

What Happened

The sequence of events unfolded dramatically over the past few days. Two days ago, Sujay reportedly called Brindaban to pick up Ankita from college. The father complied and brought her home, where he confronted her about her ongoing conversations with Sujay. During the heated exchange in Sujay’s presence, Brindaban alleged that Sujay force-fed Ankita poisonous biscuits, leading to her immediate distress. Sujay and a few others quickly rushed her to Malkangiri Medical College, where she was treated for two days. She was then discharged the previous night.

That same night, Ankita confided in her father that Sujay would visit their home the next morning to take her out and drop her back. Brindaban, still hopeful, agreed. However, as the family prepared for the visit on Thursday morning, Ankita was found hanging from a beam in the house. In a desperate bid to save her, Brindaban rushed her back to the hospital, but doctors pronounced her dead.

Devastated, Brindaban has demanded the death penalty for Sujay, accusing him of exploiting Ankita with false promises. “Why did he maintain a relationship with my daughter for so long only to deceive her now? I repeatedly pleaded with him to stop talking to her because she had even threatened suicide. No one took my warnings seriously,” he wept, urging authorities to deliver “fitting punishment” to the accused.

Police Investigation

Malkangiri Model Police Station In-Charge (IIC) Regan Kindo confirmed that an investigation has been launched into the matter. Speaking to the media, Kindo provided a slightly different perspective: “The nursing student and Sujay were in a relationship. He had promised marriage after five years, but Ankita insisted on an immediate wedding. When he refused, she took this extreme step.”

The police have registered a case and are probing the allegations of harassment, false promises, and the suspected poisoning incident.
