In a significant step towards enhancing rail connectivity between Eastern and Western India, Indian Railways has announced the launch of the Amrit Bharat Express, connecting Brahmapur in Odisha to Surat (Udhna) in Gujarat.
The inaugural train, which wiil be flagged off by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi via video conferencing from Jharsuguda on September 27, 2025, at 12:00 hrs, will mark a new era of affordable, efficient, and modern rail travel. This train will traverse key districts across Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, and Gujarat, fostering economic and industrial mobility by linking mineral, textile, and trade hubs.
The Amrit Bharat Express (Train No. 09022) will depart from Brahmapur at 12:00 hrs on September 27 and arrive at Surat (Udhna) at 21:00 hrs the next day. The route covers major stations such as Palasa, Vizianagaram, Rayagada, Titlagarh, Raipur, Nagpur, Bhusaval, and Nandurbar, with additional stoppages at Srikakulam, Bobbili, Parvatipuram, Sungarpur Road, Muniguda, Kesinga, Kantabanji, Khariar Road, Mahasamund, Lakholi, Durg, Gondia, Wardha, Badnera, Akola, Malkapur, Jalgaon, Dharangaon, Amalner, Sindkheda, Dondaicha, Navapur, Vyara, and Bardoli. This extensive network ensures seamless connectivity for passengers travelling across these regions.
Designed with modern LHB coaches, the Amrit Bharat Express offers an enhanced travel experience with improved seating arrangements, modern onboard facilities, and energy-efficient technology. The train comprises 22 coaches, including 11 General Second Class sitting coaches, 8 Sleeper Class coaches, 2 Second Class cum luggage vans, and 1 pantry car. By reducing travel time and eliminating the need for multiple train changes, this service prioritises passenger convenience, particularly for middle-class travellers seeking affordable yet comfortable journeys.
The launch of this train is a prelude to the regular service of Train No. 19021/19022 Udhna–Brahmapur–Udhna Amrit Bharat Express, with details to be announced later. Beyond providing a faster and safer travel option, the Amrit Bharat Express strengthens the bridge between Western and Eastern India, supporting business, workforce mobility, and regional development. By connecting key industrial and trade hubs, it is poised to drive economic growth while offering an economical travel solution.
