Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone and inaugurated development projects worth over Rs 5,100 crore in Itanagar, marking a major milestone in Arunachal Pradesh’s infrastructure and connectivity push.

Addressing a large gathering, PM Modi paid homage to the local deity Donyi Polo and praised the state’s warm hospitality. He described Arunachal as “the land of the rising sun and fervent patriotism,” noting that its spirit mirrors the saffron of the national flag. “Every individual here is a symbol of valour and simplicity,” he said, adding that each visit fills him with joy and pride.

The Prime Minister emphasized that the eight Northeastern states are the “Ashtalakshmi” of India and must be central to the nation’s development. He highlighted that Arunachal received only ₹6,000 crore in central tax share over ten years under previous governments, while his administration has allocated over ₹1 lakh crore in the same period—16 times more. This figure excludes additional funds from schemes and infrastructure projects.

Among the key developments, PM Modi inaugurated the new terminal building at Hollongi Airport, which now offers direct flights to Delhi. He noted that this will benefit students, tourists, and local farmers by improving access to national markets and reducing transport costs for agricultural produce.

He also spoke about the success of the Vibrant Village Programme and the government’s efforts to establish heliports in remote areas under the UDAN scheme. Modi reiterated that simplified GST rates of 5% and 18% have eased the tax burden on most items.

The event was attended by Governor Lt Gen K T Parnaik (Retd), Chief Minister Pema Khandu, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, and other dignitaries.
