A serious road accident took place near the Rasulgarh–Vani Vihar flyover in Bhubaneswar around midnight on Friday when two cars collided head-on on a no-entry stretch of the route. The impact of the collision left four people injured, all of whom were rushed to Capital Hospital for treatment.
The crash occurred on the flyover stretch leading from Rasulgarh towards Maharishi College, which is marked with a ‘No Entry’ sign and permits travel only through a single designated route. According to eyewitnesses, one of the vehicles was a private car, while the other was a commercial cab carrying a woman passenger. The front portions of both vehicles were completely mangled due to the forceful impact, and the loud noise of the crash alerted locals, who rushed to the scene.
Preliminary reports suggest that the cab driver may have entered the wrong side of the flyover, possibly due to the absence of diversion signage or police presence in the area, where road construction work is currently underway. Locals also suspect that the driver might have taken the route as a shortcut, a practice that is not uncommon in late-night traffic.
Saheed Nagar police promptly reached the spot and coordinated with emergency services to shift the injured to Capital Hospital. Fortunately, the airbags in both vehicles deployed during the collision, preventing major casualties. The injured passengers are reported to be out of danger, though their vehicles suffered extensive damage.
