Jansi alias Bachhela Atami, a senior female Maoist leader, surrendered before Police in Gariabandh district on Monday.
Janasi, originally from Gadchiroli in Maharashtra, served as the secretary of the Nagari Area Maoist Organization and was an active member of the Dhamtari-Gariabandh-Nuapada Division Committee for over two decades. She is the widow of Satyam Gabde, a close aide to Central Committee member Chalapati. Both were killed in a security encounter earlier this year.
The government had placed an Rs 8 lakh bounty on Jansi, citing her involvement in several Maoist operations. Her surrender is seen as a major blow to the insurgency network in the region and a step forward in rehabilitation efforts.
Authorities have confirmed that Jansi will be processed under the state’s surrender and rehabilitation policy, which offers support for reintegration into mainstream society.
