A shocking incident has emerged from Dambasara village under Gunupur police limits in Rayagada district, where Naib Sarpanch Ranjita Tripathy was found dead under suspicious circumstances.
Her family has filed a formal complaint, demanding a thorough investigation to determine whether her death was a suicide or a murder.
According to sources, Ranjita was married to Narasingha Tripathy in 2007 through traditional Vedic rituals. Her family alleges that she had been subjected to physical and mental abuse by her husband and in-laws since the day of her marriage. The inconsistencies in the statements given by her husband and his family have further fueled suspicions surrounding her death.
Ranjita reportedly fell ill and was rushed to the Gunupur Sub-Divisional Hospital, where doctors declared her dead on arrival. Based on the family’s complaint, Gunupur police registered a case, seized the body for post-mortem, and detained her husband for questioning. The investigation is ongoing, and police have stated that the truth will be revealed once the autopsy report is received.
The incident has sparked outrage in the local community and raised concerns about the safety of women in public leadership roles, especially in rural areas.
