Security at the sacred Jagannath Temple (Srimandir) in Puri has been significantly upgraded, with police personnel now equipped with body cameras at all four main entrances.
The move is aimed at improving surveillance, preventing unauthorized entry, and enhancing the overall safety of devotees and visitors.
Body Cameras for Real-Time Monitoring
According to temple security officials, each of the four main gates has been allotted two body cameras, which will be worn on the chests of police personnel. The devices are equipped with:

The cameras will capture both visuals and conversations of devotees entering the temple, providing crucial data that can be reviewed whenever needed.
Crackdown on Non-Servitors and Prohibited Entry
Authorities clarified that the enhanced surveillance will help identify non-servitors (those without authorized temple duties) trying to escort devotees inside or sneak into restricted areas. The system will also monitor and prevent the entry of prohibited items into the temple premises.
“With this measure, unauthorized persons will no longer be able to slip into restricted passageways unnoticed,” a senior official said.
Data as Crucial Evidence
The recorded footage will be stored securely and can be used as evidence in case of disputes or security incidents. Officials believe this will make security enforcement more transparent and accountable.

“We are giving utmost priority to the security of Srimandir,” said Puri SP Prateek Singh. “Police personnel stationed at all four entrances are now equipped with body cameras. These devices will record all activities and will serve as vital evidence during investigations, should any incident occur.”
