Delhi Police’s Special Cell has arrested five individuals from Delhi, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, and Telangana for their alleged involvement in a terror module planning bomb attacks across the country, including the National Capital Region.
The arrests include Aaftab from Delhi, Ashar Danish from Ranchi, and Abu Bakr alias Sufiyan, also from Delhi. Two others, whose identities remain undisclosed, were apprehended from Madhya Pradesh and Telangana. Police teams are continuing raids in multiple locations, and more suspects are reportedly being questioned.
Authorities recovered a cache of bomb-making materials including copper sheets, hydrochloric acid, nitric acid, sodium bicarbonate, sulphur powder, ball bearings, circuit boards, and other IED components. Safety gear such as gloves and respiratory masks were also found.
Initial investigations suggest the suspects may be linked to the AQIS (Al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent) module and were possibly inspired by ISIS and ISI ideologies. However, police are still verifying the exact affiliations.
This operation follows a similar crackdown in August last year, when six individuals were arrested and eight detained across four states for alleged Al-Qaeda-inspired activities.
