Chamoli district in Uttarakhand was struck by a devastating cloudburst late Friday night, triggering flash floods and landslides that swept away homes, vehicles, and market structures.
The Tharali market area bore the brunt of the destruction, with sludge and rubble burying shops and residences.
State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams, along with local police, launched overnight rescue operations. In Sagwara village, a 20-year-old girl named Kavita remains trapped under debris, while another man, Joshi, is reported missing. The road to the affected area has been blocked, complicating relief efforts.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami confirmed ongoing operations and expressed prayers for the safety of all residents. Chamoli Police shared visuals of the destruction and praised the swift evacuation efforts by Tharali police.
Additional relief camps have been set up, and the District Magistrate has reached the site to oversee operations. Authorities continue to search for missing persons as the region grapples with the aftermath of the natural disaster.
