Kolkata witnessed a major leap in urban mobility today as Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated three new metro routes, marking a significant milestone in the city’s transport infrastructure.

The newly launched corridors—Noapara–Jai Hind Bimanbandar, Sealdah–Esplanade, and Beleghata–Hemanta Mukhopadhyay—are designed to improve last-mile connectivity, reduce congestion, and offer eco-friendly travel options.

Addressing the public, PM Modi emphasised the importance of connectivity in driving development. “It is always a delight to be amongst the people of Kolkata, a city whose development we are greatly committed to,” he said, highlighting the strategic value of linking the airport and IT hubs.

The Noapara–Jai Hind Bimanbandar route strengthens airport access, offering a direct link for flyers and easing traffic on key roads. The Sealdah–Esplanade stretch enhances east–west connectivity, while the Beleghata–Hemanta Mukhopadhyay line caters to residential and tech zones, supporting the city’s growing commuter base.

This expansion is part of a broader national vision to modernise urban transport, making travel faster, greener, and more inclusive. For Kolkata, these new routes are more than infrastructure—they’re pathways to opportunity, tourism, and economic growth.
