In a moment of pride for Odisha, Dr. Pushan Mahapatra has secured the All-India Rank 1 in the NEET-PG 2025 examination, emerging as the national topper among over 2.5 lakh candidates.
A graduate of SCB Medical College, Pushan achieved this feat in his very first attempt, scoring an impressive 707 out of 800.
Pushan, who hails from the Kaligali area of Cuttack, plans to pursue postgraduate studies in Pharmacology and Radiology. He attributes his success to unwavering focus, disciplined preparation, and the support of his family. “Success in NEET-PG demands intense dedication and clarity of purpose,” he said, recalling the moment he saw his rank and felt overwhelming joy.
Having completed his MBBS last year, Pushan served as a house surgeon until March before dedicating himself fully to NEET-PG preparation. His sister, Dr. Chetana Mahapatra, is a PG student in ENT at SCB, while his brother-in-law, Dr. Biswajit Bahal, serves in the Pharmacology department—making medicine a shared family pursuit.
Pushan’s achievement was celebrated at SCB Medical College, where faculty and students gathered to felicitate him. The college’s principal, Dr. Lucy Das, and superintendent Dr. Gautam Satpathy praised his dedication and called him a role model for aspiring doctors.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi called Pushan’s success “a proud moment for Odisha” and expressed hope that he would serve the state as an exceptional doctor.
