New Delhi: The Indian Railways’ ambitious Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS) is set to revolutionize the country’s railway infrastructure, opening up business opportunities worth ₹30,000 crore for engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) companies over the next two years.
This initiative aims to redevelop 1,318 railway stations across India, significantly enhancing passenger amenities and modernizing facilities.
The budget allocation for this massive redevelopment project has seen a substantial increase, rising from ₹2,159 crore in FY2023 to ₹15,511 crore in FY2025.
This surge in funding underscores the government’s commitment to transforming railway stations into world-class facilities.
The ABSS, launched in February 2023, focuses on reviving and modernizing existing railway stations to meet global standards of quality and service. The scheme is expected to provide a significant boost to the construction sector, offering EPC companies a chance to diversify and grow their businesses.
Among the states, Uttar Pradesh leads with 149 stations slated for redevelopment, followed by Maharashtra with 126, and West Bengal with 94. The project also emphasizes multimodal connectivity, ensuring seamless integration with other modes of transport.
The redevelopment of these stations is not just about infrastructure; it aims to enhance the overall travel experience for passengers, providing facilities such as air-conditioned waiting rooms, executive lounges, food courts, and improved accessibility for differently-abled individuals.
With foundation stones already laid for 553 stations and over ₹20,000 crore worth of projects awarded to date, the ABSS is poised to make a significant impact on India’s railway network and the construction industry.
