Odisha Vigilance arrested four government functionaries in three separate bribery cases across the state.
The arrested individuals include two health staffers from the office of the Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO), Parlakhemundi; one health staffer from Muniguda CHC, Rayagada; and a junior clerk from the office of the Block Education Officer (BEO), Mahakalpada, Kendrapara.
All four were apprehended yesterday and formally arrested today. They are being forwarded to the designated Vigilance courts for further legal proceedings.
In one of the cases, Vigilance officials trapped Sri Jagdish Pattnaik, a clerk at the CDMO office in Parlakhemundi, along with Sri Niranjan Nayak, a peon from the same office. Subsequent searches led to the recovery of Rs 5,19,700 from Pattnaik’s office drawer and Rs 1.5 lakhs from his government quarter. The total cash seizure amounts to Rs 6,69,700, suspected to be ill-got gains from bribery.
Interrogation of the accused is underway to trace the source of the seized money. Further updates are awaited as investigations continue.
