The Odisha government is set to undertake a comprehensive reorganization of panchayats before the 2027 panchayat elections, said Panchayati Raj Minister Rabi Narayan Naik.
The move aims to streamline governance and enhance the delivery of welfare schemes at the grassroots level.
The minister confirmed that the panchayat restructuring will be completed before the next panchayat polls, ensuring better administrative efficiency and accessibility. Additionally, block-level restructuring is scheduled to be completed before the 2029 general elections.
In a related development, the Governor of Odisha, Dr Hari Babu Kambhampati, has proposed measures to strengthen the panchayat system, emphasising the need for robust local governance mechanisms. The restructuring is expected to bring government schemes closer to the people, improving transparency and service delivery.
This initiative marks a significant step toward decentralisation and inclusive development, aligning with the state’s long-term vision for empowered rural communities.
