In a powerful response to the rising tide of youth suicides, the Commissionerate Police Bhubaneswar-Cuttack, in collaboration with Naman Foundation, launched the “Jiban Jindabad” initiative, a socio-cultural awareness event held at the Rail Auditorium.

Starting at 6:00 PM, the event drew a diverse crowd, including students, NSS volunteers, Scouts and Guides, NCC cadets, volunteer organisations, and government officials, all united to promote mental health and the value of life.

The program, far from a conventional gathering, was a vibrant blend of inspiration and education. It featured live performances by Odia cine stars Sabyasachi Mishra, Shailendra Samantaray, and Divya Mohanty, with musical compositions by renowned music director Premanand. Noted psychiatrist Dr. Amrit Patjoshi provided expert insights into mental health, while individuals who overcame suicidal tendencies shared their heartfelt stories, resonating deeply with the audience.

The evening showcased three compelling theatrical presentations. The first, Five Lives and Five Untold Stories, performed by versatile actor Choudhury Bikash Dash and students of Utkal Sangeet Mahavidyalaya, depicted personal journeys to the edge, urging society to address its blind spots. The second, by Odia Kalakarnka Swora (OKS), used satire and humour to portray the regrets of a soul post-suicide, delivering a poignant appeal to choose life. The third, by singer-composer Prem Anand, with the powerful message “This human life is not meant to be lost… don’t give up,” was lauded by dignitaries, including Odisha’s Hon’ble Chief Minister, Sri Mohan Charan Majhi.

The event was graced by prominent figures, including DGP Odisha Sri Yogesh Bahadur Khurania IPS, Commissioner of Police Dr. S. Dev Datta Singh IPS, and other senior police officials. The Chief Minister, addressing the youth, emphasised resilience in facing life’s challenges and praised the initiative for fostering a positive mindset. “Jiban Jindabad sends a clear message: life is priceless, and every struggle is a chapter to grow through,” he said.

The “Jiban Jindabad” initiative marks a bold step by the Commissionerate Police to engage communities in mental health advocacy, aiming to inspire hope and save lives. Through its innovative approach, it seeks to create a society where no one feels alone in their darkest moments, reinforcing the rallying cry: Long Live Life!
