Mumbai: Ananya Panday is set to make her OTT series debut with the new Amazon Prime Video series. The teaser for her upcoming web series Call Me Bae was released on Tuesday. In the show, the actor portrays a South Delhi heiress, who becomes a hustler; the series is backed by Karan Johar’s Dharmatic Entertainment.
Ananya plays the role of a youngster from South Delhi who lands in Mumbai after losing money.
Landing in Mumbai, she is forced to survive in a house which has a leaking roof, travel in autos and find a job. She eventually gets hired in a newsroom with Vir Das as a boss. Grumpy, stern and seemingly focusing on hard news, Vir dismisses Ananya in the first go. The series will follow Ananya’s struggles and shed light on her survival skills.
The trailer brings back memories of Two Broke Girls, an American television sitcom which starred Kat Dennings as Max Black and Beth Behrs as Caroline Channing. The basic premise of the American show and the new series are similar.
Call Me Bae is a Dharmatic Entertainment production, with Karan Johar, Apoorva Mehta, and Somen Mishra as executive producers. The series is written by Ishita Moitra, Samina Motlekar, and Rohit Nair, and directed by Collin D’Cunha. This 8-part series stars Ananya Panday in the lead role, supported by an ensemble cast including Vir Das, Gurfateh Pirzada, Varun Sood, Vihaan Samat, Muskkaan Jaferi, Niharika Lyra Dutt, Lisa Mishra, and Mini Mathur.
