Ashwin Kumar’s Mahavatar Narsimha has become a benchmark in Indian animation, crossing Rs 100 crore in just 11 days.
Released on July 25, the film opened at Rs 2 crore and surged 15x by its tenth day. This mythologically inspired story has not only captivated audiences but also toppled big-budget films like Kesari 2 and Jaat, cementing its position as India’s highest-grossing animated feature.
Based on the legendary fourth avatar of Vishnu, the film portrays Narsimha’s dramatic emergence to protect Bhakt Prahlad from the tyrant Hiranyakashyap. With its Hindi version alone raking in Rs 70 crore, the film shows no signs of slowing down and continues to draw crowds until major releases like War 2 and Coolie enter theatres mid-August.
Director Ashwin Kumar revealed this is the first instalment in the Mahavatar Cinematic Universe, promising more animated retellings of India’s rich mythological tapestry.
