The mortal remains of the Balanga victim from Puri district arrived in Odisha on Sunday, reaching Biju Patnaik International Airport in Bhubaneswar via a flight from Delhi.

The body, transported from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi after a postmortem, was received under stringent security arrangements and sent to the victim’s native village for final rites.

The Commissionerate Police implemented a robust three-tier security system at the airport and along the route to ensure the safe transit of the body. A special carcade, accompanied by three platoons of police, escorted the Mahaprayan vehicle carrying the remains up to the Commissionerate Police limits. Bhubaneswar DCP Jagmohan stated that these measures were in place to manage the tense atmosphere surrounding the incident.

The victim’s body was handed over to her family after the postmortem, conducted on Sunday morning at AIIMS Delhi. With the state government’s assistance, the remains were transported to Delhi’s airport by around 9 PM on Saturday and flown to Bhubaneswar. Political leaders and workers from various parties gathered at the airport to pay their respects, reflecting the widespread grief and attention the case has garnered.

In response to the charged situation, security was significantly tightened across key locations in Bhubaneswar. Police were deployed along the route from Raj Bhavan to AG Square, and additional forces were stationed around the residences of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida to prevent any untoward incidents.

The body is set to be laid to rest at the village cemetery, where preparations, including the digging of the grave, were completed in advance. Family members are reportedly ready to perform the final rites in accordance with traditional customs. The tragic death of the Balanga victim on Saturday evening has sparked widespread mourning and calls for justice across the state.
