Mumbai: Several areas in Maharashtra are submerged as heavy rains lash Mumbai and its surrounding regions. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts moderate to intense rainfall in the next few hours.
The agency anticipates heavy to very heavy rainfall in certain areas, with the potential for extremely heavy downpours in isolated spots throughout Mumbai.
Due to the deluge, educational institutions in the Raigad and Thane districts are shut, with similar directives for Wada and Vikramgad in Palghar district.
A red alert, signalling expected heavy to very heavy rainfall, was issued for the Raigad district on Wednesday and has persisted into Thursday. Consequently, flight and local train services have experienced delays amid the inclement weather.
Air India has announced possible delays for flights arriving at and departing from Mumbai, and local trains are operating below their usual speeds due to diminished visibility from the heavy rainfall and gusty winds.
