Nepal has formally requested India’s assistance in locating the two buses and over five dozen passengers swept away in a landslide in Central Nepal on Friday morning. Nepal’s Ministry of Home Affairs wrote to India on Monday, asking for technical assistance, including divers, to search for the missing buses and passengers.
Bhismakumar Bhusal, Joint Secretary at the Disaster and Conflict Management Division under the Home Ministry, confirmed the request, stating that all available resources in Nepal were insufficient, prompting the call for India’s help. The letter sent to India seeks supporting technologies to trace and retrieve bodies or remains from the Trishuli River, where the buses were swept away.
This is the first time Nepal has asked India for such assistance. In previous years, Nepal had sought Bangladesh’s help for similar search operations.
As of Tuesday morning, a total of 13 bodies have been recovered after two buses were swept away by a landslide in Bharatpur Metropolis-29, Simaltal, Chitwan, on Friday morning.
