Hathras: Uttar Pradesh Police have arrested the key accused in the Hathras stampede incident which left 121 people dead this week.
The primary suspect, identified as Dev Prakash Madhukar, was reportedly apprehended in Delhi. He is believed to be associated with the self-proclaimed godman Surajpal, also known as Narayan Sakar Hari or Bhole Baba.
According to Hathras Superintendent of Police Nipun Agarwal, Madhukar is being transported to Hathras for a court appearance.
The FIR filed at Sikandra Rao police station lists Madhukar as the sole accused. His lawyer AP Singh stated that Madhukar surrendered in Delhi. Tragically, a stampede at a religious gathering in Hathras resulted in the deaths of at least 121 individuals, predominantly women.
The event, organized by the Manav Mangal Milan Sadbhavna Samagam Committee, was attended by hundreds. Following the incident, a case has been filed against the event organizers under relevant sections of the country’s new criminal code, Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
