Hathras: A lawyer named Vishal Tiwari has filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the Supreme Court, calling for the formation of a high-level committee, supervised by a retired Supreme Court judge, to investigate the recent stampede at a Satsang in Hathras, which claimed 121 lives so far.
The PIL requests the Supreme Court to establish a five-member expert committee to conduct the investigation and take legal action against those responsible for the incident. It also seeks a status report from all state governments, including Uttar Pradesh, on stampede incidents that have occurred over the years and calls for guidelines to be established for organizing such functions.
In addition, another PIL has been filed in the Allahabad High Court, seeking a CBI inquiry into the Hathras stampede. The Uttar Pradesh Police has also registered an FIR against the organizers of the religious congregation, alleging that overcrowding led to the stampede and that the organizers failed to assist the victims and destroyed evidence.
Furthermore, the self-styled godman, Bhole Baba (Narayan Sakar Hari), who was present at the Hathras Satsang, is believed to be evading authorities, as they have been unable to locate him despite searching premises linked to him in Uttar Pradesh.
