Uttar Pradesh: The death toll in the tragic stampede at a private religious gathering in Hathras has risen to over 80, confirmed Hathras District Magistrate Ashish Kumar. He stated that the district administration is actively investigating the incident.
“District administration is investigating the matter. The injured are being taken to the hospital and people are still being recovered. A figure of nearly 50-60 deaths has been reported to me by the doctors,” said Hathras DM Ashish Kumar.
According to NDTV, Officials in Etah district confirmed the deaths of an additional 27.
“Permission for the event to be held was given by the SDM and it was a private event. A high-level committee has been formed to investigate the matter. The primary focus of the administration is to provide all possible help to the injured and kin of the deceased,” he added.
The DM has released helpline numbers and said, “In view of the accident that took place in Hathras district, the district administration, keeping an eye on the situation of the incident, has issued helplines 05722227041 and 05722227042 for the help of the general public.”
In the meantime, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has offered his condolences for the tragedy during a parliamentary session.
“There are reports of many people dying in the stampede in Hathras, Uttar Pradesh. I express my condolences to those who lost their lives in this accident. I wish for the speedy recovery of all the injured. The administration is engaged in relief and rescue work under the supervision of the state government. Senior officials of the central government are in constant touch with the Uttar Pradesh government. I assure everyone through this House that the victims will be helped in every way,” said the PM in the parliament session.
PMO has announced ex-gratia of ₹2 lakh from PMNRF for the deceased’s next of kin and ₹50,000 for the injured.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has acknowledged the tragic incident and extended his deepest sympathies to the families of the deceased.
The CM has directed the district administration to speed up relief efforts at the incident site. He ordered officials to ensure the injured are quickly transported to hospitals for proper medical care and has expressed his hope for their rapid recovery.
CM Yogi is closely overseeing the situation and has sent two ministers, the Chief Secretary, and the DGP to the location. He has also directed officials to assemble a team led by the ADG of Agra and the Commissioner of Aligarh to investigate the accident’s causes. An FIR is to be lodged against the event organizers, and the administration is gearing up for significant action following the tragedy.
The UP CM has announced an ex gratia payment of ₹2 lakh for the deceased’s next of kin and ₹50,000 for the injured. He has commanded the district administration to promptly reach the site and expedite relief and rescue operations.
