In a significant development, the Odisha Vigilance Directorate has secured the conviction of Devi Prasad Padhy, former Junior Motor Vehicle Inspector (MVI) at Girisola Check Gate, Berhampur, Ganjam district, in a disproportionate assets (DA) case.
The Hon’ble Special Judge, Vigilance, Berhampur, sentenced Padhy to two years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹50,000 under Section 13(2) read with 13(1)(e) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
This marks Padhy’s second conviction. He was previously found guilty in a bribery case (Berhampur Vigilance PS Case No.13/2010) for demanding and accepting a bribe from a bus owner in exchange for permit renewal.
Following his earlier conviction, Odisha Vigilance recommended his dismissal, which led to his removal from service as Jr. MVI and then In-charge RTO, Boudh.
The DA case was investigated by Prasanta Kumar Dwivedy, Ex-Inspector, Vigilance, Berhampur Division, and prosecuted by Surendra Panda, Special Public Prosecutor, Vigilance, Berhampur.
This conviction underscores the state’s ongoing commitment to rooting out corruption and ensuring accountability in public service.
