The Additional District Judge cum Special POCSO Court in Jagatsinghpur has sentenced Aman Rajak, a resident of Narsinghpur, Madhya Pradesh, to five years of rigorous imprisonment for cyber exploitation of a teenage girl from Odisha.
The case, registered under CID-CB Cyber Crime PS Case No. 26 dated November 15, 2021, stemmed from a complaint by Prabesh Behera, father of the victim Preeti Sneegdha Behera. While preparing for her medical entrance exams, Preeti came into contact with Aman Rajak via Instagram. Their online friendship took a dark turn when Aman manipulated her into sharing explicit photographs and videos, which he later posted publicly on her Instagram account and shared via WhatsApp.
The investigation revealed that Aman had changed the password of Preeti’s Instagram account and used it to circulate the explicit content. The victim’s family promptly reported the incident to the NCR Portal, leading to the deactivation of the account. The CID-CB Cyber Crime unit seized critical evidence, including mobile handsets, SIM cards, chat screenshots, and IP logs, confirming Aman’s involvement.
Following his arrest on December 22, 2021, Aman Rajak was charged under multiple sections of the IPC, POCSO Act, and IT Act, including 292(2)(a), 500, 506 IPC; Sections 12 and 14 of the POCSO Act; and Sections 66-C, 66-E, 67, and 67-B of the IT Act.
The court, recognising the gravity of the offence and its societal impact, delivered a strong verdict aimed at deterring cyber crimes against minors. This conviction stands as a critical reminder of the dangers lurking in digital interactions and the importance of cyber vigilance.
