Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has expressed deep grief over the death of three persons in a road mishap in Borigumma area of Koraput district on Friday.
While extending his deep sympathies to the bereaved families, the Chief Minister has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 3 lakh each for the next of kin of the deceased.
In addition to that, the Chief Minister has directed for providing suitable treatment to the injured, while wishing for their speedy recovery.
At least three persons were killed and 13 others were injured on Friday in a series of road accidents at Bijapur under Borigumma police limits of Koraput district. Among the dead two are women.
Condition of four out of the 13 injured is stated to be critical. While they have been shifted to the Saheed Laxman Nayak Medical College and Hospital at Koraput, the other injured have been admitted to the Community Health Centre (CHC) at Borigumma.
The CCTV footage shows that while an SUV and and an autorickshaw were coming from the same direction, a tractor was coming from the opposite direction. The SUV was travelling at a high speed and was attempting to overtake the auto rickshaw.
Meanwhile a speeding bike coming from the opposite direction while trying to overtake the tractor rammed into the SUV.
The SUV driver on losing control over the wheel hit the auto rickshaw. Under the impact of the collision the auto rickshaw turned turtle and some of the 15 passengers travelling in it fell on the road. Two of them were killed on the spot.
While the SUV hit the auto rickshaw, another bike coming from the opposite direction hit the SUV in which the biker was killed on the spot.
