Bhubaneswar: The ministry of environment, forest and climate change has appointed Siddhant Das as the new chairman of Central Empowered Committee (CEC), a central body which monitors and ensure compliance with orders of the Supreme Court of India in the matter of writ petitions covering subject matters of environmental clearance.

Siddhant, who held the chairman’s post of Odisha Real Estate Regulatory Authority, has got the elevation and became the first person to hold the top post in the permanent CEC.

Earlier, the CEC was functioning on ad-hoc basis and worked as the watchdog for issues of environmental clearances and compliances.
