A major fire erupted late Sunday night at the Turbhe truck terminal in Navi Mumbai, engulfing at least eight trucks in flames and triggering a series of explosions. Fortunately, there were no reports of casualties, officials confirmed.

The blaze broke out around 11:15 PM, prompting an urgent response from Vashi and MIDC fire brigades. A total of eight fire engines were deployed to the scene, where firemen battled the inferno for nearly five hours, eventually bringing it under control by 4:00 AM on Monday.

“There were explosions due to gas cylinders nearby, which made firefighting efforts highly risky,” said U.B. Akre, a fire officer from Vashi fire station. “We were also able to move nearly 40 trucks to safety during the operation.”

Preliminary reports suggest that the presence of plastic crates may have intensified the spread of flames. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Emergency crews are now engaged in cooling operations to prevent reignition, and a full damage assessment is underway.

This is yet another reminder of the vulnerabilities in industrial and logistics hubs, where combustible materials and insufficient fire controls can rapidly escalate into major disasters.
