A shocking temple theft took place late last night in Sanaghati village under Rambha Police Station in Odisha’s Ganjam district, where miscreants looted two donation boxes from the Maa Dal Khai Temple located near National Highway-16.
According to reports, the unidentified thieves locked the temple priest’s house from the outside before breaking into the temple during the quiet hours. They forcibly removed two hundis (donation boxes) from the sanctum and fled.
Preliminary estimates suggest the boxes may have contained over ₹1 lakh in cash, as they had not been opened for several days. The priest noted that offerings had been accumulating for quite some time.
Fortunately, the entire crime was captured on CCTV installed at the temple. The footage clearly shows the sequence of events and the culprits involved. The Rambha Police have launched an investigation and are analyzing the CCTV footage to identify and track down the accused.
The incident has raised alarm over the lack of adequate temple security, especially at religious sites near highways. Locals are demanding increased police patrolling, better lighting, and surveillance systems to prevent similar crimes in the future.
